In a Glass Darkly is a collection of five short horror and mystery stories by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, published in 1872.
The stories are presented as the posthumous papers of Dr. Martin Hesselius, a German physician and psychic investigator. The stories include:
Green Tea: A clergyman is haunted by a demonic monkey
The Familiar: A sea captain is persecuted by a dwarf
Mr Justice Harbottle: A cruel judge is attacked by vengeful spirits
The Room in the Dragon Volante: A mystery novella about being buried alive
Carmilla: An Austrian female vampire story with lesbian overtones.
The stories explore themes of psychological horror and the uncanny, and mirror the darker aspects of human nature, life, and death.
